One Shop, Both Scopes

Misc Metals That Fit the Frame

Miscellaneous metals connect to the structure all over a building. Stairs land on beams, lintels bear on framing and embeds have to be in the concrete before the steel arrives.

When the same shop fabricates the structural steel and the misc metals, those connection points are built from one set of approved drawings. You get fewer field fixes and one sub to call about both.

Miscellaneous metals, defined

Miscellaneous metals are the non structural steel items in a building, such as stairs, handrails, ladders, embeds, lintels and bollards. In construction specifications they are usually covered under Division 05 50 00, Metal Fabrications.

Questions From GCs

Miscellaneous Metals FAQ

What are miscellaneous metals in construction?

Miscellaneous metals are the non structural steel items in a building, such as stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, embeds, lintels and bollards. They are usually specified under Division 05 50 00, Metal Fabrications.

Can you bid misc metals separately from structural steel?

Yes. We bid miscellaneous metals as its own package, and we can also add it to a structural steel fabrication or turnkey package.

Why have the same shop do structural steel and misc metals?

Stairs, lintels and embeds all connect to the structure. When one shop builds both from the same approved drawings, connection points line up and you have one sub accountable for the fit.

Can you get embeds to the site before our concrete pours?

Yes. We schedule embeds and anchor plates ahead of the rest of the package so they are on site when your concrete crew needs them.

What finishes do you offer on misc metals?

We supply misc metals hot dip galvanized or in shop primer, based on the project specifications. Galvanizing is common for exterior stairs, rails, bollards and lintels, and shop primer for interior items that will be field painted.

Do you install miscellaneous metals?

We fabricate and deliver misc metals to the job site, ready for your installer. Embeds and other early items can be scheduled to arrive ahead of the pours that need them.

Where is your fabrication shop?

Our shop is at 398 Cherokee Trail in Woodway, Texas, near Waco. We take on miscellaneous metals projects across Texas and nationwide.

How do I get a misc metals bid?

Fill out the short form on our bid request page or email estimating@heartlandsteeltx.com. Our estimator will follow up to talk through the project and collect your plans and specs. Choose miscellaneous metals as the scope.
