Structural Steel Fabrication Built in Woodway, Texas

Heartland Steel fabricates beams, columns, frames and structural assemblies to your approved shop drawings. Buy it as fabrication only or as part of a turnkey steel package, for projects across Texas and nationwide.

Our Core Work

Fabricated Under Our Own Roof

Fabrication is the center of everything Heartland Steel does. Your steel is cut, drilled, fit and welded in our shop at 398 Cherokee Trail in Woodway, near Waco.

The shop is 125 by 75 feet, with a saw line, a CNC plasma table and AWS certified welders, and it is run to meet AISC standards. Our fabricators build to your approved shop drawings, and pieces are checked against those drawings before they are loaded. When steel reaches your site, it is ready to set.

Structural steel fabrication, defined

Structural steel fabrication is the shop process of cutting, drilling, fitting and welding steel shapes and plate into the beams, columns, braces and assemblies that make up a building's frame. The work follows approved shop drawings, and the finished pieces are delivered to the job site for erection.

Inside the Shop

CNC Plasma Cutting Under Our Roof

The plate parts on your project are cut on our own CNC plasma table, straight from the digital part files. They never leave the building to wait in line at an outside burn shop.

  • Cut From the Drawings

The table cuts from the same files as the shop drawings, so each plate matches what was approved.

  • Same Part, Every Time

The fiftieth base plate comes off the table just like the first one.

  • No Outside Vendor

Plate work runs on our schedule, not a burn shop's backlog.

  • Faster Fit Up

Clean, accurate parts go straight to our welders, which keeps the whole package moving.

Parts we cut in houseBase plates, cap plates, connection plates, gusset plates, stiffeners, shear tabs, embed plates and plate stair stringers.

Questions From GCs

Steel Fabrication FAQ

What does a structural steel fabricator do?

A structural steel fabricator cuts, drills, fits and welds steel shapes and plate into the beams, columns, frames and connections a building needs, working from approved shop drawings. The finished steel is then delivered to the site for erection.

Do you bid fabrication only?

Yes. We bid fabrication only for general contractors who already have an erector, and we also offer turnkey packages that include shop drawings, fabrication, delivery and managed erection.

Do you cut steel plate in house?

Yes. Base plates, connection plates, gussets, stiffeners and other plate parts are cut on our own CNC plasma table in Woodway, straight from the part files, so plate work does not wait on an outside burn shop.

Can you fabricate from our detailer's drawings?

Yes. We fabricate from approved shop drawings, whether they come from a detailer already on your project or through Heartland Steel.

What finishes do you offer on structural steel?

We deliver fabricated steel in shop primer or hot dip galvanized, depending on the project specifications. Galvanizing is typical for exposed exterior steel.

Where is your fabrication shop?

Our shop is at 398 Cherokee Trail in Woodway, Texas, near Waco, on the Interstate 35 corridor between Dallas Fort Worth and Austin.

Do you fabricate steel for projects outside of Texas?

Yes. We fabricate in Woodway and take on structural steel projects for general contractors across Texas and nationwide.

How do I get a fabrication bid?

Fill out the short form on our bid request page or email estimating@heartlandsteeltx.com. Our estimator will follow up to talk through the project and collect your plans and specs. Choose fabrication only or turnkey as the scope.
